White-crowned Sparrow

White-crowned Sparrow in Norfolk; 8th February 2008

Britains 5th record of White-crowned Sparrow had been present at Cley in Norfolk for a short while and I was finally in a position to try and see it! I met up with Craig and Mike and were on our way overnight to Norfolk.

We arrived at Cley at first light and there was a very very very very anxious wait. Initially it looked like the clear skies had moved the bird on; however after what seemed like a very long wait the White-crowned Sparrow was located singing on the top of a bush.

This North American sparrow was an absolute cracker of a bird! Although elusive it times the striking appearance of this bird made it very noticeable when it did show!

As we were staying in Norfolk for a few days, we were able to enjoy watching this bird in the gorgeous sunshine for quite some time!
